Don Lucia

On April 9, 1999, the University of Minnesota tabbed Don Lucia as the 13th head coach in Golden Gopher Hockey history. Nearly four years to the day later, Lucia led Minnesota to its second straight NCAA Championship in Buffalo, N.Y., with a 5-1 win vs. New Hampshire. Entering his 18th season as a head coach, Lucia has established himself as one of the nation's premier collegiate coaches.

Lucia, 46, has guided the Golden Gophers to a stellar 134-62-20 (.667) mark during his five seasons. In 17 seasons overall as a head coach, Lucia has compiled a 413-217-49 (.644) record. That mark places Lucia fourth in career winning percentage and sixth in career victories among active NCAA Division I coaches.

John Hill

One of the most respected coaches in the nation, John Hill returns for his second stint as an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota. The past four seasons, Hill was the head coach at the University of Alaska Achorage. Prior to his tenure with the Seawolves, Hill spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Golden Gophers during head coach Don Lucia’s first two years with the Maroon and Gold.

Grant Potulny

One of Gophers' best on-ice leaders in recent years, Grant Potulny moves into a new role as a full-time assistant coach for the 2009-10 season. Potulny was a three-year captain at Minnesota during his career from 2000-04. He was an assistant captain as a sophomore for Minnesota's 2002 national championship team and then captained the team the following two years, including the Gophers' 2003 national title squad. Potulny is Minnesota's only three-year captain since 1947. Potulny recently retired from pro hockey after battling injuries throughout his career. He was injured most of the 2008-09 season, which he spent with the Tampa Bay Lightning’s American Hockey League affiliate in Norfolk (Va.).
